Miles Richardson takes over as Charles III at Wyndham’s

While I am very sorry to hear that Tim Pigott-Smith has had to withdraw from the Almeida Theatre transfer of King Charles III at Wyndham’s as a result of breaking his collarbone, apparently in a car accident, I am delighted that it means his understudy, my old sparring partner from a production of Charley’s Aunt in 1997, Miles Richardson, has stepped into the Royal shoes.

The Almeida Theatre issued a statement:

“Tim Pigott-Smith has been involved in an accident and broken his collarbone. While he recovers we are lucky that his fully rehearsed understudy, the terrific Miles Richardson will play the role of Charles. We wish Tim all the very best for a speedy recovery.”

King Charles III is written by Mike Bartlett and directed by Rupert Goold and is scheduled to run until January 2015.
