Very sad to read of his death, I used to be a learning disability nurse and he was a great advocate for MENCAP

I was never a huge fan of his comedy and respected him much more for his work with MENCAP. Good age, though.

I can’t say that I remember his comedy that well but as you say a good age and a shame that one of his last comments was “Unhappily, my body seems to be constructed in such a way that it keeps me alive in great discomfort when all I want is to be allowed to slip into a sleep, peacefully, legally and without any threat to the medical or nursing profession,”

Bob Monkhouse was another strong advocate for people with learning disabilities, I always enjoyed seeing him on the television

I don’t remember his heyday but I do remember seeing the odd theatre clip on the box. Then he did a kind of come-back in ’88 with a revival of Dry Rot at the Lyric which I only saw because my father was also in the cast! I’m afraid Bob Monkhouse didn’t make me laugh either.

I never saw Bob Monkhouse live but I thought he was very quick if sometimes a little “staged”

Sorry to hear of his passing. but I know he was in much pain at the time, but it is still a sad day.

The Stuff They Won't Include in Any Tourist Guide: The Real England

The Real England is a concise, direct, and not-so-gentle window into the depths of the leftovers of the world’s once greatest empire. It is told from the perspective of one lone (or not so lone) long term visitor. It informs one of the dregs of the country and helps to explain quaint British oddities such as the crack addicted chav.
