I knew that area well as a child. There was a small pleasure park nearby, known as ‘Peter Pan’s Pool’, and we would go there for days out. I later went out with a girl who lived near Whitefoot Lane, and we would go for drinks, and to see bands, in the Tiger’s Head pub.

We used to have what we thought was a long bus journey, ‘all the way’ to that lake. We called the area Bellingham then, though it was close to Catford Police Station. Travelling there from Bermondsey seemed like a real adventure when I was small.
