Rogues & Vagabonds 
I have heard mention of Sarah Bernhardt many times as an actress in biographies of folks who followed in her footsteps, but know very little about her. I am always amazed to think about folks like Ms. Bernhardt who traveled around the country pre- automobiles and pre-amplification — performing long works of theater night after night after night in town after town after town. They were TOUGH! Thank you for this photo of her taking on one of the most famous, challenging and usually male roles in the history of English-speaking theater.
It’s so nice to have photos of such a legend of the stage.
