Rogues & Vagabonds

theatre, film & tv past and present 2001-2008 & 2013…

About

“The profession should be and is a kind of relay race – about information, opinions and passions being passed on.” — Alan Rickman, Theatregoer Magazine, November 2001

Welcome to the new Rogues & Vagabonds!  In 2001, I founded Rogues & Vagabonds, a regularly updated site for anyone with a passion for Theatre.   A treasure trove of fascinating and indispensable articles were published between 2001 and 2008, all of which  I am steadily transferring to this blog.  The idea behind the site was – and is — to bring the theatrical past alive and cast a fresh eye over the contemporary scene, untrammelled by the restrictions often in place with ‘accepted’ media outlets.

You will find quotes, interviews with actors, actresses, directors and playwrights, as well as considered and incisive reviews and features that discuss theatre from many different angles; sometimes those aspects are surprising, at other times fascinating or curious.

I have also started sharing contemporary articles from other theatre and film sources.

The primary focus is British Theatre, although there are inevitable overlaps with Theatre worldwide, as well as Film and Television.

When I ran the original Rogues & Vagabonds, I was helped by some wonderful freelance contributors of diverse origins and ages, experience and perspectives.  To them, as always, I give my heartfelt thanks.

    WELCOME to the blogesphere 😉

  3. Thanks but not new as First Night Design has been going for two or three years. I am new to having two, however, and how to specify which blog I want to comment from! Much thanks for liking and following!

Hi Sarah, I’ve nominated you for an award; the rules have been changed, so you don’t have to think up new stuff about yourself (unless you want to). You can lie magnificently instead!

Oh darling, that’s so sweet of you. Thank you. I’ve actually decided to be award-free on all my blogs as I just can’t keep up! But I’ll be doing a post about it on FND in which I will include all the people who’ve been so kind, including you. Bless you, Elaine.

Oh dear, do take care. I find it hard enough maintaining one blog! Your blogs are lovely by the way. 🙂

Thank you. The history one doesn’t take much work as it’s mostly reblogs. R&V is supposed to be transfers from my original theatre website but of late has been only reblogging! And let’s not even talk about trying to update, like and comment on my various art galleries. I’m crazy! Have a lovely weekend, Marjorie!

  23. Hi Sarah, I had no idea you also run another blog. Thanks for linking back to my recent post about Downton Abbey. I don’t think I would have known about this blog unless you had done that.

I look forward to reading the posts you publish here.

    Best wishes,
    Hugh

Awe ha, now I understand. This is your second blog, thank you for reblogging my article about Irving Berlin. It’s a bit political but then what isn’t today. This vagabound is going to go have a browse among your post. Can’t wait to see what I find.

The Stuff They Won't Include in Any Tourist Guide: The Real England

The Real England is a concise, direct, and not-so-gentle window into the depths of the leftovers of the world’s once greatest empire. It is told from the perspective of one lone (or not so lone) long term visitor. It informs one of the dregs of the country and helps to explain quaint British oddities such as the crack addicted chav.
