Dame Maggie Smith, who plays the Dowager Countess of Grantham in ITV’s costume drama, talks to Mark Lawson about why her character should be killed off, forgetting which film she’s shooting on and why she was considered “too common” to appear in plays at school. This event, which was called Dame Maggie Smith in Conversation, was held as part of the BFI + Radio Times TV festival, which took place in April.

I just love Maggie Smith she is a great actress and so funny 🙂 She has a great witt 🙂
There are some performances I’ve not cared for (I walked out of Lettice and Lovage) but she’s always good value and yes, her honesty is refreshing and her wit enjoyable. I’m not sure she’s always easy to work with but I wouldn’t mind trying!

I’ve always loved her work and her wit. She’s fabulous. I don’t like everything she’s done, but that’s not because of her, it’s because of the story.
